What I specialize in
I specialise in translating technical or research-heavy information into narratives that are tailored to your target audiences. I do this work as either a grant writer or a science and technical writer.
If your business is related to biology, agriculture, agrifood, conservation, biodiversity, sustainability, biotech or other life sciences-related sectors, you might be my ideal client!
WHAT CAN I SOLVE?
Direct message me if you need someone to solve the following types of problems, but please also read my message at the bottom of the list before you close this page:
1) We have a grant proposal draft, but we need someone to help make it clear, structured, and reviewer-ready.
2) A research paper / technical report is about to get published, and we need someone to translate it into an accurate public story.
3) Our grant report is due, but the information is still scattered across the programme/consortium, and the report needs to be drafted.
4) We need a plain language summary for our stakeholders without losing the science and technical accuracy.
5) Which grants will suit our organisation's work?
6) Our programme's progress needs to be communicated, and we need someone to help consolidate information from the collaborators and/or send a newsletter.
7) Our online professional biographies are too technical, and we need someone to make it reader-friendly.
I'm aware that every team has unique problems they need someone to solve. So, I encourage you to send me a message to schedule a phone or video call to discuss your bottlenecks in detail.
WHO AM I?
NOW: I'm a life scientist who translates the nitty-gritty into narratives that are tailored to my clients' target audiences. I work with academia, non-profit organisations, start-ups and SMEs, and larger companies, as well as private individuals. Main subject areas: life sciences, agrifood, sustainability, conservation, biotech.
MY HISTORY: I spent my earlier years doing mostly field and wet lab work and then a decade focusing on bioinformatics / computational biology and research support. I used to work primarily in microbial ecology and plant pathology, but nowadays, I support projects in a broader range of topics (life sciences, agrifood, sustainability, conservation, biotech).
I'm also certified in editing and proofreading, so I'll make sure that applications are not only impactful but also written as clear, precise, and readable narratives.
Previous projects
Previous contractor/freelance projects include:
- EU and foundation grant application preparation for multi-national consortia.
- Grant scoping and assessment of grant suitability.
- Scientific blog articles.
- Well-researched science web articles targeting the general public.
- Translation of formal, technical texts into public- or stakeholder-friendly narratives.
- Polishing professional websites and/or making the text more audience-friendly.
- Deep editing and proofreading of technical documents.
My early track record as a research scientist includes successfully funded grants from EU Commission's FP7 Marie Curie IIF program, the Agassiz Foundation, and other small, medium, and governmental grants.
How can I help you
I offer grant writing and science communication services to help my clients increase their chances of securing competitive funding and achieving their project goals.
Tailored support.
We'll discuss your project needs and vision, clarify the details of the narratives, and develop the projects via iterative feedback so that the final products reflect your vision and expectations.
For propsaals, based on your concepts, I can either develop the full proposal or write just specific parts of the proposal. For example, I often get asked to write the impact sections because many people find them difficult to write.
What I can offer.
- Formal, professional grant narrative writing, as well as more informal writing styles targeting other types of documents and audiences.
- Translation of complex concepts into digestible, audience-friendly content.
- Scientific rigor built on 20 years of doing and supporting science.
- Clear, grammar-checked final products by a certified editor.
